Revitalizing Ghana’s Film Industry: King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II Calls To Action.

Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has thrown his weight behind Ghana’s film industry and creative sector, emphasizing the power of authentic storytelling in education, entertainment, and mindset shift. He’s urging filmmakers to tap into local sources for stories, rather than mimicking Western narratives.

The King’s concern is that the sector’s neglect has hindered national and continental transformation. He believes Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and traditions are being overshadowed by foreign values and narratives. To address this, he’s tasking the National Film Authority (NFA) to prioritize local content that showcases Ghana’s history and customs.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II attributes the industry’s slow pace to the sale of GAMA Film Company Ltd, formerly Ghana Films Industry Corporation (GFIC), over a decade ago. This move disrupted the growth and potential of Ghana’s film industry, allowing Nigeria to take the lead in film production.

Key Issues to be Addressed:

_Neglect of Local Content_: The King criticizes the dominance of foreign telenovelas dubbed in local languages, which fail to promote Ghana’s cultural heritage.

– _Lack of Authentic Storytelling_: He encourages filmmakers to explore local sources for stories, rather than imitating Western narratives.

– _Investment and Quality_: The Africa Cinema Summit, scheduled for October 7-9, will focus on improving local content quality and investment.

As the Guest of Honour at the Africa Cinema Summit, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II will discuss these pressing issues, seeking to revitalize Ghana’s film industry and creative sector. With his support, the industry is poised for a resurgence, driven by authentic storytelling and local content.
